Elementary Exegesis: Skills for Bible Reading

$14.99

This is not your average children’s Bible study. In this study, you and your children will be equipped with the skills needed to read the Bible skillfully. You will build foundational skills necessary for understanding the meaning intended by the authors. Such skills will lay the groundwork for a lifetime of reading the Bible while seeking to comprehend it.

The Bible is an ancient book, written in a language and community very different from our own. Is it possible to understand it? Yes—but as you’ll find out in this study, the journey begins with getting comfortable with the phrase, “I don’t know what this means…yet.” But we don’t have to stay there. We can grasp concepts that make it easier to understand the way that Biblical authors wrote. We can identify ways of “using” Bible verses that “break the rules” by taking a verse out of context or twisting its meaning into something it was never intended to be.

What age level is this for?

This program is intended for 4th grade and up. It is an ideal level for upper elementary and middle school. It can also be used with high schoolers who haven’t previously studied the foundations of exegetical Bible reading. In this study, literary and language topics like pronouns, paragraphs, metaphors, and genre are explored, so it is helpful if your child already has some fundamental idea of what these things are before exploring their use in the Bible.

What’s Included:

-17 Scripted, Read-Aloud Lessons

-Worksheets and Discussion prompts

-Linked videos to help you go deeper (mainly videos created by Bible Project)

-18 Illustrated cards representing key events from the Bible timeline

Page Count: 80 pages

For best results, open with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and print from that program. Both the Teacher's Guide and the Student Workbook can be printed double-sided. For best results, be sure to print the Visual Cards double-sided.
