The Jesus StoryBook Bible (English and Spanish) - (4+)

We own the bilingual edition of this Bible, and I typically read it in Spanish. Even though I’m not a fluent Spanish speaker, the beauty and heart of the prose often brings me to tears as I read. I love the way each story ties into the big story of the Bible, the story of Christ. This is something that can sometimes feel missing from the episodic nature of a children’s storybook Bible.

Family-Time Bible in Pictures - (2+)

This is the Bible I have been reading through with my two year old lately. The pictures are a little more intense and realistic than those in other children’s Bibles, and he loves them. He will sit and page through this Bible on his own, just looking at the pictures. When he sees the pictures that go with stories we’ve read, he’s able to narrate to me what happened in the story. Something about these less-cartoonish illustrations has really captured his attention, and I appreciate our times of reading this Bible together each day. Because he’s so young, he can’t quite understand how to answer the comprehension questions included in the text, but a slightly older child should find them easy to answer!

The Bible in Pictures for Little eyes - (3+)

This Bible is by the same author as “Family-Time Bible in Pictures” and has a very similar approach, with short reading segments and simple comprehension questions at the end of each story. Our family has the older edition, with old-fashioned paintings as the illustrations. There is a newer edition with illustrations in a more modern style.

Egermeier’s Bible StoryBook - (6+)

This is an excellent Bible storybook for children who are past the preschool stage. While still simplified from the text of the actual Bible, this Bible storybook includes much more detail and has longer reading segments, and fewer pictures than the other Bibles I’ve included in this list.

The Beginner’s Bible - (2-6)

This children’s Bible would be a good choice for a parent to read aloud to a toddler, but it’s also designed for a newer reader, probably around 1st-2nd grade, to be able to read this Bible themselves! Each page has only a few short, simple sentences. Some of the words are not the easiest words to read phonetically, so it’s probably not the first reader you’d want to pick up, but once your child is beginning to get the hang of reading, you could hand them this Bible to read for themselves!

DK Illustrated Family Bible - (6+)

This is a bit different from all the others on this list. The text in this is taken from the NIV Bible, but it’s not the full text of the Bible. Lots of illustrations, paintings, photos, and diagrams are included, as well as extra contextual information. It might be a little bit confusing to try to sit down and read through this as you might with other Bibles, but this is a good option for when you have older kids, and you’re reading through the actual Bible, but you want to sit down with them and look at some pictures and read more about the historical context of that time period, this is a great option.

I hope that you found these recommendations helpful!
